Wongawilli ‘Kia Ora’ Tour of New Zealand

JOIN THE PARTY!

 

29 September to 14 October 2007, 16 days, 15 nights - 8 concerts, 2 bush dances, sessions sharing tunes and songs....while enjoying te beautifu sights of New Zealand.

 

The Wongawilli Band is off to New Zealand during the 2007 October school holiday and you can join them! There are 7 in the band plus another 31 tourist, so its one musical party. There are still a few places left so get in touch with David De Santi  0409 57 1788

The tour starts in the North Island and then heads to the South Island. The itinerary includes a swagful of tourist attractions, plus off the track destinations with music from the band and local folk musicians.

 

The tour package will include air-conditioned coach travel, motel style accommodation, breakfasts and dinners, entry to tourist attractions, concerts and a very special souvenir T-Shirt.

 

The tour starts in Auckland on the North Island and finishes at Christchurch on the South Island.

 

COSTS

 

The costing will be $2950 for a twin share basis excluding airfares.

There is a $850 single supplement.

 

FLIGHTS

 

Individuals can book their own flights as follows:

  • Through Tony McGilvray at Figtree Travel Centre (tel: 02 4228 9133) or
  • On-line from QANTAS, AIR NEW ZEALAND and EMIRATES

The majority of the group are booking these flights:

Going from Sydney to Auckland:

    • QANTAS flight QF163, 7:15am, Saturday 29 September 2007, arriving in Auckland 12:10pm, 3 hour flight or
    • AIR NEW ZEALAND Flight NZ700, 7am, Saturday 29 September 2007, arriving in Auckland Midday, 3 hour flight

Return from Christchurch to Sydney

    • EMIRATES flight EK413, 7:05pm, Sunday 14 October 2007, arriving in Sydney 7:25pm, 3h20m flight

You can of course fly in earlier and stay on after the tour. The only requirement is to be at the Auckland International Airport by Midday on Saturday 29 September 2007 to meet the incoming flight from Sydney and pick up the coach.

 

If you intend going then please book the above flights as soon as possible as we do not have any block bookings for our tourists. It's up to you

 

SECURING A PLACE

 

Full payment is required by 15 August 2007.

Here’s the current itinerary, subject to some change:

  • Saturday morning 29 September – leave Australia for Auckland at 7am with flight QANTAS QF163 or AIR NZ700. Arrive Midday. Option to arrive night before or earlier if you choose.
  • Sat 29th Sept  - travel to and performance in Katikati
  • Sun 30th - travel to Devonport, Auckland, concert at the Devonport Folk Club.
  • Mon 1 Oct - travel to Coromandel, concert for the Coromandel Musical Society
  • Tues 2 Oct - travel to Rotorua and Taupo. Maori cultural evening and hangi dinner.
  • Wed 3 October - travel to Wanganui, concert at the Stellar Function Room.
  • Thurs 4 October - travel to Wellington, concert for Acoustic Routes, Wellington Arts Centre.
  • Fri 5 October - Ferry from Wellington to Picton on the South Island. Session on the ferry! Concert at the Boathouse Theatre in Blenheim.
  • Sat 6 October - travel to Golden Bay through Nelson, concert at the Mussell Inn, Onekaka.
  • Sun 7 October - travel to Christchurch, concert at Christchurch Folk Club at Cokers Hotel.
    Mon 8 October - take the TranzAlpine Train to Greymouth, then visit the glaciers and overnight in Haast. Chance for session and relaxing evening.
  • Tues 9 October - travel to Te Anua, past Queenstown. Another relaxing session night.
  • Wed 10 October - travel to Milford Sound and do the famouse cruise then to Queenstown for 2 nights.
  • Thu 11 October - a full day around Queenstown. A chance do the jet, gondola or other activities (not included in the package). A couple of tunes and songs in the evening as well.
  • Fri 12 October - travel to Dunedin, via Alexandra, Royal Albatross Centre. The band will be doing a Ceilidh as part of the Dunedin Celtic Arts Festival.
  • Sat 13 October - day trip from Dunedin along the coast and inland. Return to Dunedin in the afternoon to join in a session at the Victoria Hotel. Chance to see Dick Gaughan from Scotland in concert for $20 or enjoy the atmosphere of Dunedin on a Saturday. There'll be a final session late in the Victoria Hotel for the stayers!
  • Sun 14 October - travel to Christchurch, some sight seeing on the way and the tour ends. Fly out to Australia at 7pm on Emirates Flight EK413 or stay on for more fun in New Zealand on your own.
