SAT 29SEP07:              ARRIVE AUCKLAND / KATIKATI                                   (D)

QF163 - ARRIVAL TIME 12.10PM.

 

Welcome to New Zealand!  After clearing Customs and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) at Auckland International Airport please go straight into the main hall.  Your Kirra Tours representative will be waiting to meet you at the Tour Desk, which is situated near the escalators at the back of this main hall.  Please ask Security or the Airport/Information staff for directions to the Tour Desk if required and they will be happy to assist you.

Arrive Auckland, board your coach and travel to Waihi, where the Tour Group will be accommodated for this evening at the Waihi Motel & Goldmine Motel. (25min drive to Katikati.

5.15pm - Dinner venue for Tour Group is at the Waitete Orchard Restaurant - Waihi.

 

Band Members to be transferred to their accommodation in Katikati (billeted – own arrangements).

 

6.45pm – Tour Group will be transferred from Waihi to Katikati for concert at 7.30pm at The Packhouse, 222 Beach Road, Katikati. Returning to Waihi at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

SUN 30SEP07:              KATIKATI / AUCKLAND                                                (B/D)

8.00am - Breakfast venue for Tour Group is at the Chambers Café, Bar & Restaurant.

9.30am – Collect Band Members from Katikati, return to Waihi and collect Tour Group and travel back to Auckland, visit the Waitakere Rainforest, then back to the city for a visit to Skytower for superb city and harbour views. Terminating at your hotel in the afternoon.

Accommodation for the Tour Group will be at the Rydges Auckland Hotel.

 

Band Members are to be collected from the Rydges Auckland Hotel by their billets on arrival into Auckland.

 

5.00pm - this evening Tour Group will be transferred to Devonport Yacht Club, King Edward Parade, where you will met up with the Band Members for dinner, followed by performance and bush dance from 8pm by Wongawilli. Returning to your accommodation at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

MON 01OCT07: AUCKLAND / COROMANDEL                                        (B/D)

Breakfast for the Tour Group this morning is at your Hotel.

7.45am – leave Auckland and travel south to Matamata, where you will visit the Hobbiton movie set from the “Lord of the Rings Trilogy”. Then continue to Coromandel Town via the Driving Creek Railway and Potteries. Here you will experience the 1 hour round trip on New Zealand’s only narrow-gauge mountain railway. Tour Group will be taken to their overnight accommodation at the Anchor Lodge Hotel.

 

Band Members will be dropped off at their accommodation Tidewater Holiday Park, 270 Tiki Road Coromandel (own arrangements).

 

5.45pm - Dinner for Tour Group is at the Pepper Tree Restaurant, 31 Kapanga Road, Coromandel – Phn (07) 866 8211.

 

Tour Group this evening please make your own way to the Coromandel Area School Hall, Woollams Ave, Coromandel -  for the performance and bush dance with Wongawilli starting at 7pm.

 

 

TUE 02OCT07:              COROMANDEL / WAITOMO / ROTORUA                       (B/D)

7.00am - Breakfast for Tour Group is at the Pepper Tree Restaurant.

8.30am – leave Coromandel and travel south through the towns of Thames and Morrinsville to Waitomo. At Waitomo, a guide will escort your group underground to the limestone caverns and glow worm grotto. Continue cross the Mamaku Ranges to reach Rotorua. This evening you will enjoy a Maori hangi (meal) which will include a selection of traditionally prepared meats and vegetables plus more conventional dishes, followed by a concert featuring Maori songs, chants and the stirring haka.

Overnight accommodation for Tour Group and Band Members is at the Sudima Hotel Lake Rotorua.

 

 

WED 03OCT07: ROTOURA / TAUPO / WANGANUI                                 (B/D)

Breakfast this morning is at your Hotel.

10.00am - Leave Rotorua this morning and skirt some of the worlds largest pine forest to Wairakei where natural steam is harnessed to generate electricity, view the Huka Falls where the Waikato River pours through a narrow chasm and pause at Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand. Follow the Desert Road to the central North Island National Park, dominated by the volcanic cone of Mt Ruapehu. Continue on to Wanganui.

Dinner this evening is at your Motel.

Overnight accommodation for Tour Group and Band Members is at the Alma Motel – Wanganui.

 

6.30pm – this evening you will be transferred to The Function Room, Stellar, 2 Victoria Ave for the Wongawilli Performance from 8pm. Returning to your accommodation at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

THU 04OCT07:              WANGANUI / WELLINGTON                                         (B/D)

Breakfast this morning is at your Motel.

10.00am - Leave Wanganui cross rolling farmland through the towns of Bulls and Foxton to Levin for an early afternoon arrival in the Capital city Wellington, seeing some of the “Lord of the Rings” film locations enroute. On arrival a city tour visiting the Wellington Museum Te Papa and a ride on the Cable Car, terminateing at the Tour Groups overnight accommodation. Accommodation for the Tour Group will be at the Bay Plaza Hotel - Dinner this evening for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

 

Band Members are to be collected from the Bay Plaza Hotel by their billets on arrival into Wellington.

 

7.30pm - this evening Tour Group will be transferred to The Australian High Commission, 72 – 76 Hobson St, Thorndon for the performance and bush dance by Wongawilii. Return transfer to your Hotel will be at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

FRI 05OCT07:               WELLINGTON / PICTON / BLENHEIM                            (B/D)

EARLY Breakfast this morning for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

This morning Tour Group will be transfer to the Ferry Terminal to board (7.55am) the Interislander Ferry8.25am departure for a scenic cruise to the South Island with views of the City and its hillside suburbs.  Cross Cook Strait into the sheltered waters of Queen Charlotte Sound, bush clad hillsides remote bays and isolated holiday homes.  In Picton, you are welcomed by your South Island Coach Captain who take you to Blenheim, terminateing at the Tour Groups overnight accommodation. Accommodation for the Tour Group will be at the Blenheim Country Hotel - Dinner this evening for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

 

Band Members are to be collected from the Blenheim Country Hotel by their billets on arrival into Blenheim.

 

7.00pm - this evening Tour Group will be transferred to the Blenheim Boathouse Theatre for the performance by Wongawilli from 7.30pm. Your return transfer to your accommodation is at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

SAT 06OCT07:              BLENHEIM / GOLDEN BAY REGION                              (B/D)

Breakfast this morning for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

10.30am - Leave Blenheim mid morning travelling through the town of Havelock, before reaching Nelson region of Arts and Music. Here you will have time to visit the “WOW” World of Wearable Arts. Continue along the coast line through the Abel Tasman National Park, before arriving in Takaka where the Tour Group will be accommodated for this evening at the Anatoki Lodge Motel & Golden Bay Motel.

Dinner venue for Tour Group is at the Mussell Inn with Band members. Concert starts at 8.30pm.

Tour Group will have dinner at Mussell Inn and then stay for performance at the Mussell Inn in Onekaka. Your return transfer to your accommodation will be at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

SUN 07OCT07:              GOLDEN BAY / CHRISTCHURCH                                   (B/D)

8.00am - Breakfast for Tour Group is at the “Feel Good Foods” Restaurant.

10.00am - This morning travel inland through the towns of Wakefield and Murchison, follow the Maruia River to Maruia Springs and on into Christchurch, arriving late afternoon. Accommodation for the Tour Group will be at the Pavilions Hotel - Dinner this evening for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

 

Band Members are to be collected from the Pavilions Hotel by their billets on arrival into Christchurch.

 

7.30pm - this evening Tour Group will be transferred to the Christchurch Folk Club at Cokers Hotel on Manchester Street for the 8pm performance by Wongawilli. Your return transfer to your accommodation is at 11.00pm (NO LATER).

 

 

MON 08OCT07: CHRISTCHURCH / GREYMOUTH / HAAST                     (B/D)

EARLY Breakfast this morning for the Tour Group is at your Hotel.

This morning Tour Group will be transfer to the Railway Station to board (7.45am) the

famous Tranz Alpine – 8.15am departure train to cross the Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps to Greymouth.  On arrival in Greymouth join your coach for your journey to Haast. Pass pockets of farmland, tiny landlocked lakes and glades of dense bush with the snowcapped Southern Alps dominating the skyline. Travel through the dense bushland of the Westland National Park, to Haast Pass.

 

Overnight accommodation for Tour Group and Band Members is at the Haast World Heritage Hotel - Dinner this evening is at your Hotel. Casual acoustic session and singalong.

 

 

TUE 09OCT07:              HAAST / WANAKA / TE ANAU                                       (B/D)

Breakfast this morning is at your Hotel.

Early departure this morning travelling through the Mt Aspiring National Park, cross the Haast Pass and past the beautiful lakes of Wanaka and Hawea. Through the towns of Wanaka and Cromwell, along side Lake Wakatipu to the Fiordland National Park and the town Te Anau.

 

Overnight accommodation for Tour Group and Band Members is at the Fiordland Hotel -

Dinner this evening is at your Hotel. Casual acoustic session and singalong.

 

 

WED 10OCT07:             TE ANAU / MILFORD / QUEENSTOWN                          (B/D)

Breakfast this morning is at your Hotel.

Follow the Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys, pass through the Homer Tunnel and descend into the Cleddau Canyon to reach majestic Milford Sound, dominated by Mitre Peak.  A launch cruise takes you to the open sea and the Bowen and Stirling Falls.  Return to Te Anau and on to Mossburn, then skirt the shores of Lake Wakatipu to reach Queenstown.
